Dunn Trail Hike Review (Oakland, CA)

This beautiful trail is located at Redwood Regional Park in Oakland, California off the 580 freeway. The densely forested, shaded trail is moderate difficulty at a 4 mile walk with some steep hills to scale along the first half. You can find parking at a free, public lot next door to the Richard C. Trudeau Conference Center (you can GPS navigate to this location to find the trail). There is ample street parking, so don't worry too much about not being able to find a spot. Although, I hiked in the late afternoon on Sunday, so this may differ in early mornings. It is a very popular spot to walk, so expect to pass many people, dogs, and some horses carrying riders. This is a popular spot for mountain biking, so be aware of bikers in this area. The only issue I find with this trail is the abundance of dog poop bags that people leave lying next to the trail, which tends to stink it up a bit, especially toward the beginning. The trail starts at Dunn trail and goes into Westridge Trail, then Graham Trail (or Graham then Westridge if you go the other direction) to get back to Dunn trail again to exit. I highly recommend this trail for anyone who is in relatively good shape with regards to cardiorespiratory fitness, and is wanting to test their mettle.
